Fox River Cruising

Fox River Cruising

One of the best places to go hovercrafting in the Chicago area is on the 20 plus mile stretch of the Fox river between Yorkville and Wedron. North of Yorkville, the river is nice, but rather boring, with few opportunities for amphibious transistions. South of Yorkville, the river is very shallow, with lots of flat islands to skim over. Close to Wedron, there are some very pretty rock formations to look at before you start back upriver for home.

Here's a photo of Terry, Matt, and I on a stony island near the rock formations. From left to right, that's Terry and his twin engined GPL Air Commander 3+, my Weber Starcruiser 2, and Matt Cook and his Universal Hovercraft UH-13T. Those rocky islands can be a bit punishing on the skirts, but they're fun. Farther upriver, closer to Yorkville, there are a number of places where you can skim across grass or soil rather than just bare rocks.

Text urging hovercrafters to be respectful of the homeowners and other users of the river goes here.
